As our school is a voluntary controlled Church school the admission arrangements are determined in agreement with the local authority (LA).  The LA is the “Admissions Authority” for our school.  As such the regulations for entry are published by the LA each year and can be obtained directly from them. St. Hilda’s School usually admits up to 7 children per year group.

The LA publishes a composite admissions prospectus each year, which gives information to parents about applying for a place at the school of their choice.  Parents can express a preference for the school of their choice and should do so on the application form, which is now usually completed online.  Parents can access the online application form at https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/school-admissions. Expressing a preference does not, in itself, guarantee a place at this school.  The LA notifies parents about the school place once all applications have been considered.

Children are usually admitted to school once a year, in September.  We plan our induction arrangements carefully to make sure that this goes smoothly.  Most of the children who come to St. Hilda’s have attended Pre-School with us and Mrs Spaven already knows them well.  For others, we meet with parents to chat about their children and the children join their class for some sessions in the second half of the summer term (June/July). We have flexible, phased arrangements for the first few weeks of the autumn term and we work with parents to make sure that their children have the best possible start to school life.
